To handle a variety of special duties, commuter railroad Caltrain rosters a pair of versatile EMD MP15DC locomotives which originally served the Southern Pacific.
The MP15DC is a multi-purpose locomotive build in the traditional “end cab” design of diesel switchers but equipped with trucks capable of mainline service. Constructed by Electro-Motive (EMD) from 1974 through 1980, the MP15DC is a four-axle (B-B), 1,500-horsepower (1119 kW) locomotive powered by an EMD 12-cylinder 645-series engine and employing a D.C. generator. A total of 351 MP15s were constructed.
Dressed in Caltrain’s colorful livery, the TSW MP15DC is a superb re-creation of the distinctive locomotive and features exacting details, fully interactive and realistic controls, and true-to-life performance. And you’ll have the opportunity to put the Caltrain MP15DC through its paces in a variety of authentic duties ranging from switching and train make-up duties at the railroad’s San Jose shop facilities to handling heavy-tonnage work trains on the main line to coming to the rescue of failed commuter trains!

EMD에서 제작한 MP15DC 디젤-전기 기관차 입니다. MP는 Multi-Purpose이고 15는 1500마력, DC는 DC발전기를 채용했다는 의미입니다. 엔진은 EMD 2행정 12기통 645E 엔진을 사용합니다. 8기통 645E3C 엔진을 사용하는 코레일 4400호대와 유사하네요. 칼트레인 노선에서 단거리 호퍼 화물 견인, 고장열차 구원, 입환 (여객열차 조성) 정도를 담당하는 차량입니다. 입환작업은 중앙 유지보수 시설 (CEMOF) 에서 갤러리 카를 편성합니다. 바이-레벨 캡 카는 작업목록에 없네요.. 암트랙 동북부간선에서 DLC로 나왔던 SW1000R과는 확연히 다른 퀄리티를 보여줍니다. SW1000R에 비해 전방 시야도 좋고, 많아진 시나리오 갯수와 서비스 목록이 눈에 띕니다. 튜토리얼도 친절하게 잘 설명해줍니다. 하지만 20,500원의 가격 치곤 MP15DC 하나 딸랑 들어있는건 아쉽긴 합니다. (이것 말곤 추가콘텐츠가 없습니다.) SW1000R은 메트로라이너 캡 카를 같이 줬었거든요. 애초에 칼트레인 노선 출시할 때 MP36과 같이 한 번에 내줬으면 좋았겠지만 도브테일은 밥줄이 고픈가봅니다. SW1000R은 의자 위치 조절이 가능했는데 MP15는 이게 안되는 것도 작은 단점이네요 헤드라이트 조명 효과도 근래 나온 북미 차량중에선 제일 좋은 듯 싶습니다. 드디어 자연스러운 광원효과를 볼 수 있게 되었네요. 열차 퀄리티도 매우 잘 되어 있습니다. 게이지 라이트를 켜면 주간제어기 (쓰로틀) 에도 단 수에 불이 들어옵니다. 소리 또한 경적소리가 작은 것을 빼면 흠잡을 곳은 없네요. 15,000~16,000원 정도에 정가로 출시해 줬다면 딱 좋았다고 생각합니다. 퀄리티는 정말 좋지만 딸랑 기관차 하나 추가라 아쉽습니다. MP36은 바이-레벨 캡 카라도 같이 줬는데 말이죠. 9.0/10.0
