Anode Heart is an homage to the classic monster tamer games of the early 2000s. It's set in a futuristic world where physical and virtual reality are deeply intertwined, and have become almost indistinguishable from one other.
You play as Seek, a robot with no memories. Your journey begins by awakening next to a metallic pod on a foggy shore. While exploring Stack Island, you'll partner up with Tama, mysterious creatures born inside the Net, that have recently started materializing in the Overworld. Your mission will be to find out who and what you are, and with the help of Tama, to prevent a great calamity looming on the horizon.

Reboot system:
Your creatures have a max level cap. By rebooting them back to Level 1, you increase their level cap, and their overall Potential. When they reach their previous max level again, they'll be stronger than they were before. Repeat this cycle to create powerful beasts!
JRPGs and monster tamer games have defined my childhood and they've greatly inspired me to create my own stories and games. I'm happy to be working on a monster tamer of my own, and I hope to share a new story today that you'll enjoy.

Pokemon Empyrean이라는 포켓몬 팬 게임을 만든 제작자가 만들었다고 해서 한 번 해봤다. 팬 게임 때도 느낀 거지만 역시 몬스터 육성하는 맛은 최고다. 도트 그래픽도 예쁘고 세계관도 흥미롭다. 하지만 단점들도 많이 보인다. 일단 육성의 재미는 좋은데 배틀의 전략은 크게 중요하지 않다는 느낌이다. 일단 몬스터의 성능이 1순위고 육성을 제대로 했다면 전략은 상관없고 타입 상성 보고 공격하기만 하면 된다는 느낌. 반대로 몬스터의 성능이 별로면 뭘 어떻게 해도 이길 방법이 없다. 전략 게임보다는 육성 게임이라고 보는 게 맞는 것 같다. 노가다 성이 심하다. 포켓몬 팬 게임 때도 그랬지만 경험치 파밍을 위해 오랜 시간을 소요하게 되는데 굉장히 지루하다. 스토리의 연출이 빈약하다. 세계관은 흥미로운데 단순 대화를 통해 스토리가 진행되다 보니 스토리의 몰입감이 떨어지고 중간중간에 다양한 BGM 활용해 다양한 분위기를 연출해야 하는데 그런 게 전혀 없다. 아직 아쉬운 부분들이 많이 남아있지만 디지몬이나 디스가이아 시리즈처럼 환생을 통해 점점 강해지고 다른 진화 루트를 통해 다양한 육성을 할 수 있는 부분은 다른 게임에서는 쉽게 찾아볼 수 없는 이 제작자만의 강점이다. 육성 RPG를 좋아한다면, 그리고 영어를 할 줄 안다면 한 번 해볼 만한 가치가 있는 게임이다.
