Leadville Subdivision is a connection track between two main lines which are owned and operated by UP and BNSF. The subdivision is mostly single track until Dayton, where the track remains doubled until the city of Leadville – home of BNSF’s rail yard and the end of the subdivision.

Both railways have trackage rights on the Leadville Sub for exchanging rail cars at each yard, or serving their customers on the line. Under agreement between UP and BNSF railways, Port Eagle is also served by both railways to ensure trains keep moving.
