The V 160 family were popular four-axle diesel-hydraulic locomotives built in the 1970s for passenger and freight services on numerous lines, playing a significant role in the history of German rail transportation. The DB BR 218 'V 164' is often regarded as an iconic member of this class due to its distinctive sleek appearance that embodies classic German engineering. A design that has made it a favourite among rail enthusiasts.

A reliable locomotive, the DB BR 218 has also enjoyed a long-standing service. Used on branch lines and for freight services until the new millennium. Whilst it has been mostly replaced in recent years by newer units, some can still be found in service today in different areas for use as a rescue locomotive.
