Solar War! A fast-paced, space-themed, shoot-em-up, bullet hell, arcade style game where players attempt to shoot and weave through a horde of enemy planets in a bid to survive just a little bit longer.

Why planets? Because why not?! You won't see a single spaceship in this game, for we're thinking about bigger things!

(With all this planet talk in this game, we've made the main player be the entire Earth.)

Note that this is a demo version, so there may be incomplete features, sub-par graphics, overpowered mechanics, and annoying bugs! (Although I've tried extensively to remove all of the bugs, I can't make any promises!)

Features


There are quite a number of cool features in this game, including:
  • 27 distinct planetary objects based off of real astronomical objects, with their own quirky behavior! (Plus a bunch of asteroids.)
  • Power cubes that can grant useful powerups when collected!
  • Random events and spawns can change things up for better... or for worse. (Usually worse though...)
  • 8 ruthless bosses derived from the main planets, that are designed to be challenging!
  • The Sun Boss at 50,000 points.
  • A secret Boss at 120,000 points.
  • Difficulty options that allow you to choose how the game plays!
  • Gameplay Options that can change the rules a little bit...
  • And finally, a high score system! Compete with your friends and see who can get the most points!
    (High scores are saved per computer, NOT on the cloud or your Steam account. Yet.)

A full playthrough through the Sun Boss will take around 2 hours, depending on how things decide to spawn in the run. (Players that are not proficient at the game will find that their runs take a lot less time!)

Future Plans


The full version of the game, in addition to all of the features of the demo version, will include:
  • A Rougelike shop system that allows your planet to become beefier.
  • More star systems after the current one, each with new planets and bosses!
  • Some story of some kind, although I don't really know what kind of story or how it will be implemented...
  • More custom Gameplay Options that allow you to change even more rules...
  • A global high score system, where getting a high score is even more meaningful!

Although there's still a lot left in this game before it is done, I have been working on this game for the past 4 years, so I wanted to share what I do have far and wide... for free!
