Since the 1980s and 1990s, museums, libraries, galleries and archives have been digitising their collections. In the past decade, 3D digitisation has become an increasing part of this activity.
The European Union encourages its Member States to 'digitise in 3D, all monuments and sites deemed at risk, 50% of the most physically visited cultural and heritage monuments, buildings and sites, and pay special attention to specific categories of heritage assets with low level of digitisation’ by the year 2030. This is an exciting decade for 3D digitisation!
The Twin it! 3D for Europe's culture campaign invited the Ministries of Culture of the 27 EU Member States to submit at least one 3D digitised heritage asset to the common European data space for cultural heritage, stewarded by the Europeana Foundation. This exhibition showcases those assets and explores how 3D digitisation helps us to preserve, explore and enjoy Europe’s cultural heritage.
