The VL11 is a Soviet freight mainline two-section electric locomotive with direct current, mass-produced from 1987 to 2006. The VL11M differs from the VL11 primarily by its ability to operate fully on three connections of traction motors without resetting the controller to zero, with transitions — travel positions 18, 33, and 48, as well as smoother traction engagement at higher speeds. During the production of the VL11, several other changes were made to its design, such as the replacement of compressor motors, installation of SAURT equipment (automatic control system for regenerative braking), changes to electrical circuits, increased coupling weight, and others.
