As you climb the ranks, the stakes grow lethal. In the higher tiers, the generic mob is replaced by The Emperor. When the "Crowd Pulse" hits, the camera zooms into the Imperial balcony. A thumb held horizontal, the wait. Then, the verdict:

• Thumb Up (Glory): The Emperor is pleased. Your team is blessed with healing, divine buffs, or a rain of Denarii.
  
• Thumb Down (Death): Hubris is punished. An Imperial archer may fire into the pit, or a trapdoor may release a hungry lion to finish your "boring" warriors.
