Honolulu International Airport is one of the busiest airport in the United States, with a traffic exceeding 20 million passengers a year.
The airport is served by 27 international and domestic carriers, three inter island airlines, and four commuter airlines. Main hub for Hawaiian Airlines, the biggest Hawaii-based airline.
PHNL has four active runways. The principal runway designated (8R/26L), also known as the Reef Runway, was the world`s first major runway constructed entirely offshore.
Completed in 1977, the Reef Runway was a designated alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle.
