In the year 2016, the near future, the once great nation, United States of America, is a shadow of its former self. Legislation has been passed which has greatly restricted the rights of those accused of crimes, removing privileges such as trial by jury. The individual's rights are eschewed in favor of businesses and corporations. Lobbyists from large companies, such as Shard Corporation, contaminate the legal system with restrictive laws designed to keep the less affluent from filing lawsuits against large companies.

The CEO of Shard Corporation, Lord Shard, is also a renowned prosecutor, as has been his family's tradition for generations. But after a mysterious incident atop the Shard Corporation building, a cloud of secrets hanging over the past of the Shard family was revealed. Lord Shard's son, Damion, was forever changed by that incident. Soon, Damion decided to become a defense attorney, a decision that astonished his family. However, Lord Shard decided to create a small law firm so that his son could practice as a defense attorney.
