"Modern Sovyonok: 2009" is a story without mysticism or sci-fi, grounded in realism and set during the hot July of 2009.

At the center of events is a 16-year-old boy spending time away from his family for the first time. Leaving behind the loathsome City K, he heads to Sovyonok to find something new - far from rules, parental supervision, and his past. Ultimately, he just wants to relax and break the monotony of his life.

But he could never have imagined what awaited him. Trustworthy allies. Enemies who never stop pestering him. Air thick with new ideas and feelings. Scorching heat and endless rains. Fear of punishment for disobedience biting at his heels - and feelings of love and a thirst for happiness driving him forward, urging him on. Ordinary thoughts about "the new" turn into a romantic quest for the Great "New".

In this place, within a month, he must do it all. Find his "New", change, fall in love, become happy, and, scariest of all, grow up.
