Noel, a girl who lost her family and home to war, finds herself on a aimless journey when she's caught in the rain and takes shelter in a nearby building. Unfortunately, that building turns out to be an old, dilapidated "prison" that has stood since ancient times.

There, Noel meets Diethard, the last death row inmate. Thanks to the chief guard's sympathy, Noel is allowed to stay in the prison for a while and ends up helping to guard the prisoner until the day of the execution, which is just five days away.
